GLOF Flash flood/Urban flood, is expected due to prevailing and forecasted meteorological conditions, temperatures are likely to rise and remain relatively high during the coming days over the northern parts of Pakistan, particularly the glaciated valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Furthermore, a rainfall spell is expected to affect different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
North of the country
• Residents and tourists must strictly refrain from camping, trekking, or staying near riverbanks, stream beds, glacial lakes, and narrow valleys during this spell.
• Observe local streams and nullahs closely for early indicators, such as sudden changes in water color (muddiness) or deep grinding sounds from rocks upstream.
• Steer clear of steep mountain slopes where thawing ice and heavy rain could initiate active landslides or mudflows.
• Move livestock, critical household items, and equipment to higher, safer grounds.
• Work in close contact with local Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Committees (CBDRMCs) for early warning signals and emergency protocols.
• 24/7 Administrative Readiness: Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA, GBDMA, Rescue 1122) and line departments must remain on high alert 24/7 to address any emergency.
