Blizzard conditions are possible. A low pressure system approaching the region from the west will bring heavy snow and strong southeasterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h, leading to possible blizzard conditions at times. 5 to 15 cm of snowfall accumulation is expected with this storm, with higher amounts expected at Baker Lake compared to Arviat. The snow and winds are expected to begin Friday evening, and taper off late Saturday afternoon. There is still some uncertainty whether the swath of accumulated snowfall will fall within the townsites or if it will fall to the south of Baker Lake and to the west of Arviat. Confidence is not high enough to upgrade this watch to a warning, but the situation will be closely monitored as it develops. ### Visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Winter Storm Watches are issued when hazardous winter weather conditions are possible. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
