ESFLOT Periods of showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to move across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana on Wednesday. Torrential rainfall could lead to instances of flooding, especially in urban areas or areas that recently saw flooding impacts or received heavy rainfall. Atmospheric conditions are very favorable for high rainfall rates in excess of two inches per hour. Much of the area will be especially susceptible to flooding given recent flood and heavy rain events. Most of northern Illinois is favored to receive an inch or more of rain through the end of Wednesday with pockets closer to two to three inches possible. A number of area rivers and streams are currently swollen as a result of recent rain. This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts are possible, but not yet certain. Persons should closely monitor forecasts including the possibility of flood watches, warnings, and advisories. No updates to this outlook product are currently scheduled.
