What: Heavy snow followed by prolonged period of rain When: Sunday afternoon to Tuesday morning Where: North Coast - inland sections including Kitimat and Terrace, Central Coast - inland sections Impacts: -Prolonged heavy rain on snow combined with mountain snow melt will lead to very enhanced responses in river systems and potential for flooding. -Extensive water pooling on roads and wash-outs may occur. -Enhanced risk of landslides due to saturation of landscapes. Additional information: An atmospheric river will begin to make landfall over the BC coast on Sunday and will remain over the region until Tuesday bringing heavy snow and rain. Light snow will begin Sunday morning and intensify late Sunday afternoon. Snow will begin transitioning to rain Sunday overnight through Monday morning as snow levels rise sharply to 1,500 metres. Total snowfall and rainfall accumulation for this event will be highly variable due to the uncertain timing of the precipitation changeover. Locally, snowfall amounts could reach 20 to 30 cm before the transition. Light to moderate rain will continue on Tuesday and while it will not be as intense as Monday, it will continue to contribute to the rainfall total. Snow levels will fall to 500 metres on Tuesday. ### Roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate. Road closures are possible.
