Flooding will end early next week for most points but will continue into mid week for the lower river points. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Wabash River at Mount Carmel. * WHEN...Until Wednesday evening. * IMPACTS...At 21.0 feet, River Road in the Mount Carmel, Illinois area begins to flood. Lowland flooding in progress. A few local river roads are closed by high water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 10:45 AM EDT Saturday /9:45 AM CDT Saturday/ the stage was 20.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 10:45 AM EDT Saturday /9:45 AM CDT Saturday/ was 20.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 20.6 feet tomorrow evening. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast through this afternoon, mainly near and east of the Mississippi River. Due to very cold temperatures just off the ground, some of the showers or thunderstorms could produce small hail and cold air funnel clouds. Cold air funnels are due to very cool air aloft...warm moist air near the ground...and are usually in association with a strong area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Due to little or no wind shear...they are usually very brief and rarely reach the ground. If the funnels do reach the ground, minor wind damage is possible.
