    ...MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL RETURNS SUNDAY INTO MONDAY... A strong low pressure system is currently tracking northward towards the panhandle, snow transitioning to rain across much of the southern panhandle through Sunday night. For the northern and central Alaska Panhandle, anticipating a bit later start, by early Sunday evening and continuing into Monday. No significant snowfall forecast changes.Current forecast snowfall accumulations within the Winter Storm Warnings are between 6 to 12 inches, with locally higher amounts expected through Monday afternoon. For southern panhandle communities in Winter Weather Advisories, expecting total snowfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches before a changeover to rain or a rain/snow mix, highest totals within interior Prince of Wales Island. Snow showers will then continue behind this system with widely variable accumulations through the rest of the week. * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Visibility reduced to 1 mile or less. * WHERE...Glacier Bay, Eastern Chichagof Island, Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait and City and Borough of Juneau. * WHEN...Until 1 PM AKDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Sunday evening or Monday morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Current forecast has heaviest snowfall rates arriving Sunday evening into early Monday morning across the Icy Strait corridor communities, including Juneau. Snow will transition from light and fluffy to more wet and dense through Monday morning. Locally higher amounts are expected.

    ...STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM QUICKLY INCREASES WINDS SUNDAY... Winds have begun to increase across the southern panhandle this afternoon as the low continues track northward. Currently, the strongest winds are in Dixon Entrance and pushing into Clarence Strait. This area is seeing sustained Gale force winds of 35 to 40 kts with occasional storm force gusts near 50 kts. Land Winds have also begun to increase with the strongest gusts near 40 mph currently over Ketchikan and southern Prince of Wales Island. Wind gusts have increased the last few ours coming out of Taku Inlet with gusts up to 40mph reported near Downtown Juneau. The strongest wind gusts are still anticipated to be this evening as that low moves just west of Baranof Island before diminishing through early Monday morning. * WHAT...East winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * WHERE...Downtown Juneau and South Douglas Island. * WHEN...From 1 PM Sunday to 1 AM AKDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Use extra caution if traveling by land, sea, or air. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind gusts have increased this afternoon near Downtown Juneau and southern Douglas Island due to increased winds coming out of Taku Inlet. Strongest winds are likely to continue through this evening before diminishing tomorrow morning. There is a chance that gusty winds will last into Monday.
