Little if any rainfall fell across the area last night after the cold frontal passage. As a result, the combination of dry fuels from the ongoing drought, low relative humidity and gusty winds will lead to an increased fire danger across southeast NC today. Strong north to northeast winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 to 35 mph will be accompanied by relative humidity values falling to 20 to 30 percent this afternoon.

The combination of dry fuels from the ongoing drought, low relative humidity and gusty winds will continue to produce an increased fire danger across southeast NC thru early this evening. Strong north to northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph will be accompanied by relative humidity values in the 20s thru early this evening. The gustiness in the wind field will diminish by sunset allowing the adverse fire conditions to improve slightly.
