Credit Valley Conservation has issued a Flood Outlook Statement for the areas of the Credit River Watershed in Peel and Halton Regions as well as Wellington and Dufferin Counties. Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) advises that Environment and Climate Change Canada has forecast localized thunderstorms across the entire Credit River watershed throughout Friday starting early morning, continuing into Saturday afternoon and evening. Heavy rainfall is possible with peak rainfall amounts ranging from 30 to 40 mm/hour. The upper and middle watershed has already received localized rainfall depths of approximately 20 to 30 mm, respectively, as of this evening. While no flooding of the Credit River and its major tributaries is expected, there is a possibility of localized flash flooding and water pooling on the roads and in flood-prone and low-lying urban areas. Urban streams and rivers may become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams. People are warned to stay away from all watercourses and to keep children and pets away. CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed. The Watershed Conditions Statement for Flood Outlook will be in effect through Sunday August 9, 2026, or until further notice. Localized heavy rainfall possible today. What: Localized amounts exceeding 50 mm possible. When: Ending this evening. Additional information: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon resulting in highly variable rainfall amounts. Some areas have already received 50 to 100 mm of rain this morning and may be sensitive to additional amounts. Water may pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Heavy rain may cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility.
