    * WHAT...Hot conditions with high temperatures up to 85 to 90 degrees expected and low temperatures 58 to 62 degrees. This will pose a moderate risk of heat-related illness. * WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Washington. * WHEN...Until 10 PM PDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Heat will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for those who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration.

    • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. For sheltering information and other human services in your area, dial 2 1 1 during business hours or visit wa211.org anytime. To stay safe when heat and smoke are present, go to spaces with indoor cooling and air filtration. To cool spaces with no air conditioning, pull shades to block daytime heat. Use portable air cleaners or DIY box fan filters to help cool and clean air. Stay hydrated and limit activity until heat and smoke improve.

    An Air Quality Alert for wildfire smoke has been issued by the following agencies: Northwest Clean Air Agency An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Whatcom and Skagit Counties through Thursday August 6 at 5pm due to current and expected wildfire smoke from regional fires. Degraded air quality is expected in Skagit County from Hamilton eastward and in Whatcom from Deming eastward. Particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations may reach Unhealthy levels in the easter portions of Skagit and Whatcom Counties. When air quality is Unhealthy, everyone should reduce exposure. Limit time outside, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and follow tips for cleaner indoor air.
