    ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR 20-FT WINDS ABOVE 20 MPH, RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 10% OR LESS, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR MOST OF WEST TEXAS...

    * WINDS...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

    * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 4 percent.

    * RFTI...2-3 or elevated to near critical.

    * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

    * SEVERITY...

    FUELS (ERC)...90th+ percentile...5 (out of 5).

    WEATHER...Elevated...1 (out of 5).

    FIRE ENVIRONMENT...6 (out of 10).

    * WHAT...Northeast winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected, especially through Guadalupe Pass.

    * WHERE...Guadalupe Mountains of west Texas and Southeast New Mexico, especially Guadalupe Pass.

    * WHEN...From 11 PM MDT /midnight CDT/ this evening to 10 AM MDT /11 AM CDT/ Monday.

    * IMPACTS...Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles like campers, vans, and tractor trailers.

    • Winds will be particularly hazardous at higher elevations where the strongest winds are likely to occur. Be especially careful driving in these mountainous areas. People driving high-profile vehicles should strongly consider postponing travel in these areas until the winds subside. Delay travel through Guadalupe Pass or find another route, if possible.
