...MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL CONTINUES INTO MONDAY..A strong low pressure system is currently tracking northward towards the panhandle, with snow transitioning to rain across much of the southern panhandle through early Monday. For the northern and central Alaska Panhandle, drier air has interfered with moisture transport into the area, and so have lowered storm total snowfall amounts. Snowfall rates will diminish as the system departs through Monday morning. Heavy Snow showers will then build in behind this system with widely variable accumulations through the rest of the week * WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. * WHERE...Portions of Southeast Alaska. * WHEN...Until 1 PM AKDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heaviest snow has been having trouble reaching northward past Hoonah as of early Monday morning. Although still expecting some accumulation, amounts with the initial system may be lower than anticipated for the northern half of the Icy Strait Corridor and Juneau. Locally higher amounts are possible. Snow showers will begin in the wake of the initial system and strengthen Monday night through Tuesday.
