...PERIODS OF SNOW FOR PARTS OF THE PANHANDLE THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT...
.A heavy band of snow is moving through the panhandle, bringing a short period of heavy snow with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. While this band will move over relatively quickly, showers along the back side of the band will continue periods of light to moderate snow overnight. Temperatures are expected to start cooling again this evening into Sunday with bands of snow moving through the southern and central panhandle Sunday into Sunday night. Accumulations in the south will be the highest on the higher elevations of Prince of Wales Island midday Sunday, but will have more accumulations expected at sea level by Sunday evening and night as temperatures cool Sunday evening.
* WHAT...For the first Winter Weather Advisory, snow. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches. For the second Winter Weather Advisory, snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches.
* WHERE...Ketchikan Gateway Borough and Annette Island.
* WHEN...For the first Winter Weather Advisory, until 1 AM AKDT Sunday. For the second Winter Weather Advisory, from 4 PM Sunday to 4 AM AKDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult and is discouraged. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...For the first advisory, highest accumulations will be with the initial heavy band of snow, but showers will continue through the night.
