    SCATTERED TO FAIRLY WIDESPREAD THUNDERSHOWERS EXPECTED

    The Ministry of Environment and Tourism through the Department of Meteorological Services wishes to inform the public of the expected scattered to fairly widespread thundershowers over the southern half of the country. Fairly widespread thundershowers are expected over Kgalagadi and Southern districts, while scattered thundershowers are anticipated over Ghanzi, South east, Kgatleng and Kweneng districts on the 30th April 2026. On the 1st of May we expect scattered thundershowers over South east, Kgatleng and Kweneng districts, and isolated thundershowers over Ghanzi and Kgalagadi districts. These wet conditions are caused by atmospheric medium-level instability over the country. As a result of these heavy falls of 50mm or more, there is a potential of flash floods in some areas of the above mentioned districts.

    • Most parts of the country, excluding Ngamiland, Chobe, Northeast and Central districts
    • Potential impacts of these rains, include damage to infrastructure and property, power outages and poor driving conditions. Considering these impacts, the public is advised to take the following precautions: Move to higher ground If you are in a flood-prone area, evacuate immediately to safer locations. Avoid driving through water. Prepare an emergency kit which Includes essentials like water, food, medications, flashlights, and important documents. Stay informed: Monitor weather updates through official channels such as radio, TV, or website.
