Central St. Martin Parish in south central Louisiana... Northwestern St. Mary Parish in south central Louisiana... * Until 615 AM CDT. * At 217 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. An estimated 1 to 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... New Iberia, Catahoula, Jeanerette, Loreauville, Lake Fausse Pointe, Lydia and Butte La Rose.

    • Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

    * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Louisiana, including the following parishes, in south central Louisiana, Lower Iberia, Lower St. Martin, Lower St. Mary, Upper Iberia and Upper St. Mary. In southwest Louisiana, East Cameron, Lower Vermilion, Upper Vermilion and West Cameron. * WHEN...Through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A stallling cold front will interact with a very moist airmass through at least early Wednesday. Multiple rounds of rain are expected to produce totals of 3 to 6 inches within the watch area through Wednesday. There will be isolated higher totals of 6 to 10 inches beneath stronger or training cell clusters. Rainfall rates in storm storms may be excessive and quickly produce flooding in urban areas.
