...HIT OR MISS SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUE THROUGH MID WEEK...
.A stationary low in the northern Gulf of Alaska will send several bands of snow showers across the northern and central panhandle through the week, producing widely variable snow accumulations. A more organized band of showers is pushing into portions of the northern and central panhandle Tuesday morning. Another organized band is likely to push through late Tuesday night through Wednesday. The Winter Weather Advisories have been expanded further southward given expected heavier precipitation rates leading to a transition to more snow. Advisories could be upgraded to Winter Storm Warnings if heavier snow showers continue over the same area.
* WHAT...For the first Winter Weather Advisory, snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. For the second Winter Weather Advisory, snow expected. Total snow accumulations for the second advisory of 3 to 6 inches.
* WHERE...City and Borough of Sitka.
* WHEN...For the first Winter Weather Advisory, until 1 PM AKDT this afternoon. For the second Winter Weather Advisory, from 4 AM to 4 PM AKDT Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Travel by land and air could be impacted.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A band of snow showers moves through on Tuesday. Another band will move through late Tuesday night into Wednesday The convective nature of snow showers will result in variable accumulations.
