The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from noon CDT /11 AM MDT/ today to 10 PM CDT /9 PM MDT/ this evening. * WINDS...Southwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, with stronger sustained winds and gusts in the higher terrain. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 15 percent. * RFTI...4 to 5 or near critical to critical. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. * SEVERITY... FUELS (ERC)...70th-89th percentile...4 (out of 5). WEATHER...Near Critical...2 (out of 5). FIRE ENVIRONMENT...6 (out of 10).

    ...RED FLAG WARNING THURSDAY FROM 1 PM UNTIL 8 PM ACROSS THE NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS AND PLAINS, CENTRAL HIGHLANDS, AND EAST CENTRAL PLAINS DUE TO STRONG WIND AND LOW HUMIDITY... .Drier air combined with southwest wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph and very low humidity between two storm systems will result in rapid fire spread across northeast and east central New Mexico Thursday. Wind speeds will weaken during the evening and humidities will climb, easing fire weather concerns. * AREA AND TIMING...Northeast Highlands (Zone 123), Northeast Plains (Zone 104), Central Highlands (Zone 125), and East Central Plains (Zone 126). * 20 FOOT WINDS...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Strongest winds will be along and north of I-40 and along and east of I-25. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimum values 9 to 13 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
