Rip Current Statement issued May 7 at 3:55PM ChST until May 10 at 4:00PM ChST by NWS Tiyan GU

    с: 07.05.2026, 15:55
    к: 08.05.2026, 06:00

    * WHAT...Large breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet in the surf zone and dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory, north facing reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, north and east facing reefs. * WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 4 PM ChST Friday. For the High Rip Current Risk, through Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Elevated trade swell, reinforced by a trade-wind surge caused by the pressure gradient between Tropical Storm Hagupit (05W) to the south-southwest and the subtropical ridge to the north, is producing a high risk of rip currents along north and east facing reefs, and hazardous surf along north facing reefs. Although the primary swell component is easterly, the small northerly swell energy, in addition to swell wrap-around effects, is sufficient to maintain hazardous surf of 9 feet along north facing reefs.

    • Guam,Guam
    • Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
