A Saharan Dust Advisory is now in effect for the Turks and Caicos Islands. A moderate concentration of Saharan dust is affecting the Turks and Caicos Islands, resulting in hazy skies and reduced air quality through Wednesday, June 24, 2026. People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children are the groups most at risk.

Residents, especially those with asthma, allergies, or respiratory conditions, should take necessary precautions;
Limit prolonged outdoor activities;
Stay indoors as much as possible over the next 2 days. Try to keep windows and doors closed, when air quality is poor. An air filtration system can be used to improve air quality in homes and workplaces.
Wear a face mask and visit your Health Care Provider if you experience breathing difficulties.
Stay hydrated, drink water to help your body cope with the dry and dusty conditions.
Wash hands frequently to prevent the unintentional spread of dust onto surfaces, particularly avoiding contact with the eyes.
Ensure that any outdoor water containers are securely covered and treated if intended for consumption or domestic preparations.
