Orange warning - heat - in effect A long duration heat event begins Wednesday. What: Maximum temperatures of 31 to 35 degrees Celsius Minimum temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees Celsius. When: Begins Wednesday and continuing into the weekend. Additional Information: The hottest days are expected to be Wednesday and Thursday, with maximum temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius expected. Minimum temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees Celsius will provide little relief from the heat. Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category. ### Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Yellow watch - severe thunderstorm - in effect Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. What: Wind gusts up to 110 km/h. Golf ball sized hail. Rainfall amounts in excess of 50 mm. Risk of tornadoes. When: Continuing into this evening. Additional information: Thunderstorms may redevelop this evening. ### Local utility outages are possible. Fast-moving and rapidly rising water can sweep vehicles away and damage infrastructure. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
