Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Outlook Statement for the Niagara Peninsula Watershed.

    From: 2026/07/21, 15:04
    To: 2026/07/22, 09:00

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is advising the public and local municipalities of the potential for flooding within its jurisdiction in the afternoon of Tuesday July 21st, 2026. This includes the Niagara Peninsula, the southeastern portion of the City of Hamilton, and the eastern portion of Haldimand County. The Niagara Peninsula Watershed is currently under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Heavy rainfall throughout the watershed, particularly near Lake Ontario and into Niagara Falls, has already resulted in over 70 mm of rain this afternoon. This slow-moving system could drop between 50 - 100 mm by late afternoon. Another ensuing storm currently tracking our way may bring additional rain and thunderstorms to the area, resulting in further flooding due to saturated soils and inundated storm water infrastructure. While the NPCA does not anticipate major flooding along larger watercourses, flash flooding in urbanized and low-lying areas is likely to occur or already be occurring.

    • Follow the directions of local authorities and look for any updates on the situation. Residents are strongly urged to stay clear of all creeks, rivers, and waterbodies due to slippery banks and elevated water levels. Property owners are encouraged to safely ensure that drainage features-such as culverts, catch basins, and ditches-are free of debris. Municipal and Regional staff are similarly advised to inspect and clear local stormwater infrastructure.
