Watershed Conditions: Flood Watch issued by Credit Valley Conservation Updated

    From: 2026/03/06, 15:40
    To: 2026/03/08, 18:00

Credit Valley Conservation has issued a Flood Watch for the areas of the Credit River Watershed in Peel and Halton Regions as well as Wellington and Dufferin Counties. Credit Valley Conservation is advising that Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's Surface Water Monitoring Centre are forecasting warmer conditions, with temperatures expected to reach 12 -17 degrees Celsius by Saturday the March 7, 2026. There is a weather system moving through upper part of the watershed (Caledon, Erin, and Orangeville), expected to bring in 15-40mm of rain beginning this evening and ending Saturday evening. The lower part of the watershed is expected to receive 10-15 mm tonight and into Saturday. The forecasted rain and warmer temperatures on Friday and Saturday will further melt the snowpack. The snowpack throughout the Credit River Watershed still contains a significant snow water equivalent, ranging from approximately 100 mm in the upper watershed to 50 mm in the lower watershed. Combined with the expected rainfall, this may cause some flooding along the Credit River and its major tributaries, as well as increased flows and water levels in low-lying areas. River ice continues to decay as temperatures rise. The river ice in the upper reaches of the watershed continues to break apart, with forecasts indicating this trend will persist over the next few days, this is not expected to result in ice jam flooding. As temperatures rise, snow and ice melt will continue, and local streams and rivers may become icy and hazardous, particularly near culverts, bridges, and dams. Children should be warned to stay away from all water courses. CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed. The Watershed Conditions Statement for Water Safety will be in effect through Sunday Mar-8-2026 or until further notice. From: 2026/03/06, 21:05
    To: 2026/03/07, 13:14

Rainfall, combined with melting snow, is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. What: Rainfall amounts of 15 to 40 mm with locally higher amounts possible due to thunderstorms. Substantial snow melt contributing to ponding on roads and low lying areas. When: Now through Saturday evening. Additional information: Several rounds of showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected. The rain combined with mild temperatures will likely melt much of the significant snowpack and lead to additional runoff. For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources office.
