    Heavy rains have caused many small streams to flood. In addition roads, low-lying and poor drainage areas were also flooded causing road closures and evacuations in the warned area. Water may be slow to recede. Additional rain over the next 12-24 hours may prolong the high water and flooding. * WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. * WHERE...A portion of central Mississippi, including the following counties, Rankin, Scott, Simpson and Smith. * WHEN...Until 800 AM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 359 PM CDT, emergency management reported flooding in the warned area. Flooding is already occurring. Between 5 and 7 inches of rain has fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Forest, Magee, Morton, Mendenhall, Raleigh, Taylorsville, Pelahatchie, Hillsboro, Polkville, D'Lo, Mize, Lake, Puckett, Sebastopol, Harperville, Sylvarena, Burns, Pulaski, Homewood and White Oak. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

    • Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
